Keeping your wine chilled is a crucial aspect of summer entertaining, so why not create a gorgeous DIY floral ice bucket to do the trick? With endless choices of florals, greenery, or fruit, you can match any party theme or season with ease – think bougainvillea or zinnias for summer and evergreens and cranberries for winter! A few simple and accessible supplies, plus ample time for the water to freeze, are all you need to create your own DIY floral ice bucket.
What You’ll Need
- One ice bucket
- One empty wine bottle
- Fresh flowers
- Distilled water (for clearer ice)
Create the Mold
Place the wine bottle in the center of the empty ice bucket, ensuring there is enough space around it for the flowers. Tip: you may wish to fill the empty wine bottle with water to weigh it down in the center.
Arrange the Flowers
Arrange the flowers in the space between the wine bottle and ice bucket. Use a variety of shapes and sizes or choose one type for a monochromatic look. We chose bougainvillea for a vibrant, seasonal look.
Fill with Water and Freeze
Slowly pour the distilled water into the space between the ice bucket and wine bottle. You may need to rearrange the flowers or pack more in as they shift. Place the finished bucket in the freezer overnight.
Un-mold and Enjoy
When you’re ready to use the ice bucket, remove it from the freezer. Add warm water to the wine bottle in the center to help release from the ice. Carefully lift the bottle from the bucket and place your favorite wine bottle inside the bucket.
