The inaugural 2018 Global Wine Awards was hosted June 18- 20 in Las Vegas. The competition featured nine world class judges with a panel of the finest palates including, Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, wine educators and industry experts.
The 3-day judging process for the diverse and specific wine categories began with a 100% blind tasting preliminary round, with the best wines advancing to the Sweepstakes Rounds, where the Double Gold and The Best of Show Categories were awarded.
Frank Family Vineyards is honored to have been awarded “Best in Show, White Wine” for our Late Harvest Chardonnay. This wine is a combination of late harvested Chardonnay grapes from the 2012 and 2013 vintages. Winemaker Todd Graff saw the potential in these two vintages to create a late-harvest wine in a very distinctive style. The Late Harvest Chardonnay was crafted in the traditional European method where botrytized grapes are left on the vine until the perfect concentration of flavors and aromas is achieved.
The final product has rich tiers of honeyed apricot, pear, spice, and candied mango flavors with an edge of acidity and minerality for balance. It pairs nicely with a dry cheese, white fruit based desserts, or vanilla sponge cake.
